We currently have a job opening for a farm labourer.

Terms of Employment: Seasonal spring through fall, Full Time, Long Hours, Weekend. Mondays off. (Hours of work and type of work done can be affected by the weather. May work long hours to ensure work is done within required time frames.)

Salary: $10.25 Hourly.

Anticipated Start Date: April 1, 2010

Location: Carp, Ontario

Education: High School or higher but not required.

Experience: Previous farm labourer and farm equipment operation experience an asset but not required.

Skills required:
  • Speak, Read and Write English.
  • Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
  • Good observation skills for detection of plant disease and problems.
  • A safe and responsible attitude in dealing with farm equipment.
  • Good health, physical stamina and strength.
  • Coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Be able to deal with simple calculations.
  • The ability to follow instructions and work in groups or individually with little supervision.
  • Be capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Job Duties:
  • Ploughing, planting by hand or by tractor, transplanting, weeding, pruning, hoeing, fertilizing, watering, harvesting, storing and packing produce for market.
  • May be required to operate farm equipment (Tractor, Farm truck, Tillage equipment, Seed planting equipment, Irrigation system).
    • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Standing, Walking, Bending, Crouching, Kneeling, Repetitive tasks, and Handling heavy loads for extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions. No allergies to pollens, molds, sun or mosquitoes.

    Work Site Environment: Farm work in a variety of environments: inside greenhouses, outside in all weather conditions. These spaces can have biting insects, noise, vibrations, odours and non-toxic dust.

    Transportation/Travel Information: Must have your own transportation, public transportation is not available to farm.
